Woodworth Park

Developing plans for additional parks and trails in District 4 was a major goal of my first two terms. We accomplished that goal by creating the SW Cherokee Parks and Trails Plan. This plan was created through community input and lots of effort from our professional planning staff. The first park in that plan is starting to come to life. It is Woodworth park, located on HWY 92 across from the Yanmar facility.

Woodworth park is the first of several parks outlined in the SW Cherokee Parks and Trails plan. This park will be a total of over 50 acres when complete and the first phase is already underway. In this first phase, we will be focusing on the infrastructure needed for the entire park, as well as some of the amenities that residents have been asking for in SW Cherokee. Parking facilities, stormwater management areas, maintenance buildings and signage are included in the first phase. Also included are an exciting new playground area, an event lawn, and walking/running trails throughout the park.

Grading and clearing have already begun and will continue through the Spring, weather permitting. After the infrastructure is in place, construction of the playground, event lawn and trails will begin. Completion of the first phase of amenities is planned to be completed near the end of Summer 2026.

Future phases of Woodworth park include additional trails, sports fields and a large recreation center and senior center.
